http://www.ipsf.com For the 10-gallon Nano Lagoon Tank we add about 6-7 pounds of dry base rock to form a reef-like structure.

The weight of the individual rocks is less important than the shape. Lighter is better. This allows proportionately more surface area upon which beneficial organisms can grow.

The base rock was made on site from aragonite sand and a small amount of cement, mixed and shaped into hand-sized pieces. It is an environmentally friendly product which does not harm living reefs.

The basic shapes are shelf, branch and bommies. Bommies are stable pieces that are placed at the base of the reef. Shelf and branch pieces are added to form an open structure with caves and arches.

We take care to leave about 2 inches of open space between the rocks and the walls of the tank.

The highest part of the reef should not be more than about half the height of the tank. This leaves ample room for corals and other organisms to grow upwards, filling the empty space above the rocks.

Please use only captive-bred organisms in your reef aquarium.
