Wildland firefighters are motivated to serve their communities for many reasons. As our wildfire seasons get harder, more new wildland firefighters are joining our team to protect our communities and landscapes. We're so proud of these firefighters. We're dedicated to giving them an experience that gives firefighters a week of hands-on training through programs like Central Washington Fire Training Academy.

Members of DNR Olympic Region completed a pack test to prepare for the upcoming fire season.

The Cherry Point Aquatic Reserve is a unique aquatic ecosystem located in the Strait of Georgia on the western shores of Whatcom County, Washington. Designated in 2010, the reserve protects unique habitat that supports marine and intertidal species that are crucial to the health of the Salish Sea.

Chris Martin, a property owner in Roslyn, says that prescribed fire is the right thing to do for his forest land.

Firefighters conduct prescribed burning in the late fall and winter to burn away vegetation like brush and trees limbs. 🌲

The forest actually needs this #GoodFire. It's a fire that's controlled and it also decreases wildfire risks in the summer. That's why we participated in a training exchange program that expands our expertise and capacity to conduct these prescribed burns.
